If you block with banding, only 1 creature needs to have banding.
If you are attacking, every attacker except 1 has to have banding.
So he couldn’t form a band using al 4 fliers.

Solid job – thanks for the descriptions. You were probably dead but I think the correct play on your final turn in the second game was to make a 5 drop and then a 4 drop because of there are a fair number of 187 creatures in those slots as well as fliers.
Maybe going for shooting the moon on the upheaval guy is statistically more probable, but with a grip full of cards I would have tried to extend the game a bit, and see if luck swings back in your favor – heck he might have even gotten stuck with a legionnaire of his own!
I also would have banded up the wurm and the flier and gotten into the redzone the turn before the legionnaire locked you down.
